The average number of new infections increased further to 567.9 per day in the period from Wednesday, July 29 to Tuesday, August 4. That is an increase from 454 cases to 567 in a week. This is an increase of 25 percent on a weekly basis, and it is also an increase compared to the weekly average reported yesterday.

On Monday, August 3, 767 new positive cases were diagnosed, and on Tuesday, August 4, 763 new cases were also registered. These are the highest numbers since the end of April. There were 147 confirmed infections on Sunday, August 2, and 293 on Saturday, August 1.

It is important to know that there is a delay of four days on the figures, so that the scientific institute Sciensano can verify the number of infections. The number of infections after August 4 is therefore not yet definitive.

For August 5, there are already 516 infections in the tables, and for August 6, last Thursday, there are currently 126.

More than 72,000 infections

In total, at least 72,784 people in Belgium have already been infected with the corona virus. That is 768 more than the number reported yesterday. This does not necessarily concern 768 new infections that were reported in one day, but also corrections from previous days that Sciensano made.

In the past week, an average of 26.7 people a day were admitted to hospital with Covid-19. This is again an increase from a week ago, when an average of 22 people were hospitalized per day. Yesterday 27 new patients were admitted. The day before, there were 28.

Three people died a day

In the past week, an average of 3 people per day died with COVID-19
