Conseslus Kipruto has tested positive for corona and will not be able to participate in the Diamond League meeting in Monaco next week. The Kenyan is world champion and Olympic champion in the 3,000 meter steeple.
Conseslus Kipruto found out he was infected after a mandatory test prior to the Diamond League in Monaco. He did it on Friday in Eldoret, in western Kenya.
Kipruto was one of eleven Kenyans who obtained a visa to participate in the meeting in Monaco, which starts on Friday. “Unfortunately I tested positive and so I will not be able to be part of the team.”
“It is very disappointing not to be able to run a race after working so hard during this period. I even set my sights on the world record, but my health is more important.”
The athlete did clarify that he does not show any symptoms of the disease. Kipruto won gold in the 3,000 meter steeple at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 and was the best twice at the World Cup at the same distance: in 2017 and 2019.
