One season – enough: Maccabi Tel Aviv announced tonight (Thursday) the loan of Andreas Janiotis to the Greek Atromitos at the end of a term in Israel that neither side will remember well. The 27-year-old goalkeeper will actually return to the team he played for in the media in the 2017/18 season.

Janiotis joined the Israeli champions in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer, and was to serve as Vladimir Ivitch’s first goalkeeper in place of Predrag Rajkovic. But weak performances in Europe, plus an injury in the Toto Cup, led to Daniel Tennenbaum’s entry between the posts.

In total, Yaniotis is involved in only three league games, and in perhaps the most memorable game for the Yellows last season – the loss to Hapoel Umm al-Fahm in the eighth round of the State Cup. Following his departure, Daniel Peretz will serve as Tennnebaum’s assistant goalkeeper next season.

In another context, Maccabi Tel Aviv has announced to Omer Atzili and Dor Micha that they are immediately released from the team, but it seems that the great saga of last season is far from over. At this stage, no conversation has yet taken place with their representatives and not even an initial offer of compensation has been made following the premature termination of the contract.
