Antwerp already bought mainly ‘Belgian’ this summer, with previous deals around Dragan Lausberg, Birger Verstraete and Nill De Pauw and reinforcements from the Jupiler Pro League with Butez and Boya. Only goalkeeper Beiranvand was already an ‘exotic transfer’, a spectacle can still be expected at De Bosuil in the coming weeks.
With Ivan Leko, Gerkens also gets an old acquaintance as coach. After all, before his transfer to Anderlecht, Gerkens was the star of STVV. In 2016-2017 Gerkens managed to score 14x in the competition and gave 5 assists. His coach then: Ivan Leko.
Gerkens started well at Anderlecht, but was out for a long time last season due to a foot injury. At Anderlecht they want to get rid of a few heavy contracts, so they are very happy with the Purple & White that the wage costs have decreased again.
