Pérez was tested for the coronavirus on Wednesday at Silverstone last Wednesday and the results turned out to be ambiguous. The Racing Point driver therefore had to undergo a second test, which revealed that he had been infected with the corona virus. Pérez was immediately quarantined and therefore could not participate in the race weekend in Great Britain. He was replaced by Hülkenberg, who was summoned by team boss Otmar Szafnauer at the last minute. The expectation was that the driver from Emmerich would also be behind the wheel this weekend, but this is now doubtful.
Formula 1 journalist Albert Fabrega just announced on Twitter that Pérez has been called up to undergo a new corona test tomorrow. If the Mexican tests negative and the health authority gives him the green light, he will be behind the wheel at Racing Point next Friday. According to the latest reports, Hülkenberg would remain on standby. If it’s up to Pérez himself, he’ll just be doing the race weekend at Silverstone this weekend. The 30-year-old driver said in an Instagram post yesterday that he had no complaints and that he felt very well.
For Hülkenberg, his return to Formula 1 may turn out to be short-lived. Only with a positive corona test for Pérez, will he still play for Racing Point this weekend. The German is in any case awarded, because last Sunday he could not start the race due to a defect in his car.
