In Suriname, more than 100 detainees of the Penitentiary Institution Duisburglaan have already been tested positive for the corona virus. Waterkant learns that a number of them have already been declared cured and that the health status of the active cases is stable.

Since the corona outbreak in Suriname, all penitentiary institutions had to set up an insolation facility to accommodate detainees if they were infected with the feared virus. All inmates who have become infected are housed in the specially equipped isolation facility.

The detainees who have been declared cured are returned in a responsible manner to the room in which they were previously held. The security measures at the Duisburglaan facility have been stepped up to prevent further spread of the corona virus within the facility.

On Thursday, another corona death was noted in Suriname. In the past 24 hours, no fewer than 108 new infections have been added. The number of active cases is now 891.
