Mid-Ohio IndyCar races postponed due to coronavirus

The IndyCar double race weekend at this weekend’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has been postponed. Due to the corona virus, the organization of the American racing class has moved the races to September or October.

The IndyCar is scheduled to run two races at the Mid-Ohio circuit this weekend, but due to local coronavirus measures, the organization is abandoning that plan. Now that the number of corona infections is also increasing in Ohio, the state has decided that meetings with large groups of people are prohibited for the time being. The races in Mid-Ohio should therefore be run without fans, which would leave the promoter of both races with a financial problem as their races in Toronto and Portland were previously removed from the IndyCar calendar.

Hoping fans will still be welcome to the Mid-Ohio races later this year, the IndyCar organization has decided to postpone the race weekend until further notice and possibly catch up in September or October. As a result, the provisional IndyCar calendar currently only has 12 races, while the championship has set the goal of organizing at least 14 races this year.

Postponing races in Mid-Ohio, the Indianapolis 500 is now the next race on the IndyCar calendar on August 23.
