“I accept the situation and try to make the best of it,” said Verstappen ahead of the second consecutive race at Silverstone. “I also don’t understand why many people think I’m frustrated. This is not a frustrating position. I think a lot of people would like to sit in my car. I can still fight for podium places. That is better than the last drive. ”
Possibly grab with both hands
Verstappen occupies third place in the World Cup standings. His deficit at number 2 Valtteri Bottas is only two points. The Finnish Mercedes driver dropped out of the points last weekend. “Mercedes is in great shape,” says Verstappen. “You have to accept that and I did. That doesn’t mean I’m not going for it. I take every opportunity I get with both hands. ”
It has so far resulted in three consecutive podium finishes, including a second place in Hungary (race 3) and Great Britain. “We keep pushing and try to improve the speed of the car. I am very motivated to get the most out of it this weekend, ”says the Limburger, who knows that Lewis Hamilton is well on his way to his seventh world title. “Lewis is doing great. He beats his teammate. If you do that in that car, you win the race. It’s that simple.”
Clear about Imola
When asked about the third Italian race of this season, at Imola in October, Verstappen is crystal clear. He is not happy with the way the two-day event is set up. On Saturday, only one ninety-minute free practice will take place. Then qualification follows.
“I think that is a stupid decision. If it was a circuit that we know well, then it is no problem. But I think this is a bit weird. A two-day event is okay, but then give us two one-hour sessions. ”
