Mattia Binotto places duties with Ferrari: “No longer technical director”

Mattia Binotto has been under a lot of pressure at Ferrari for some time and they have now drawn their conclusions. The 50-year-old Swiss immediately leaves his duties with the Italian formation. Not as a team boss, but as a technical director.

Since Binotto took over from Maurizio Arrivabene as Ferrari’s team boss, he has played a double role at the Scuderia. Besides team boss, Binotto was also technical director. Now that the crisis is at Ferrari, it has been decided that things have to change. Binotto is thus no longer the technical head of the Italian formation. The Swiss announced this to the press at Silverstone today. It is not yet known who will take over his role, but it does not have to be Italian. “We are mainly looking for the right people,” said Binotto, who will stay on as a team boss.

The crisis within Ferrari has forced Binotto to focus on one task, which is to build his team’s resurrection. “I am no longer technical director. It is too busy with all tasks and because of this there is no time to do everything right”, Binotto said. Ferrari president John Elkann said earlier that the Scuderia will probably no longer win a race for 2022. Binotto does not want to know anything about it yet. “We are doing everything we can and are working hard to win a race before then,” said the Swiss.
