A flat tire on the sand strip in front of the Monte Sante Marie cost Mathieu van der Poel a good result in the Strade Bianche. “I lost a good result there,” says the Dutchman, who eventually finished fifteenth.
“I had to go very deep to come back after that flat tire with Alaphilippe and a number of other riders,” he continues. “Everyone I came back with had to unload afterwards on Monte Sante Marie. I went over the limit and after that it was just finished. ”
“I needed the effort I made for Monte Sante Marie on Sante Marie. I am quite disappointed. The moment I had a flat tire, I felt pretty good. You are not having a bad day if you can close the gap. ”
Clear language therefore MVDP, who still finished the race. “I don’t think the result reflects the race I drove. It was mentally very difficult to finish the race. But in the end it was a very nice experience. ”
In the coming week there are two more games on the agenda of Van der Poel with Milan-Turin and Milan-San Remo. “I am happy that we can race in safe conditions,” he said. “If I have a good result on Wednesday in Milan-Turin, then I immediately have a good feeling for Milan-San Remo.”
