Man who was taken out of the water near IJburg has died


The man who was taken out of the water on the beach of IJburg on Thursday has died. It concerns a 40-year-old man from Badhoevedorp.

At around 6:40 PM, the emergency services were alerted yesterday about a missing swimmer. Divers from the fire brigade searched the water together with a police boat. A human chain was also made to find the man.

According to a bystander, the man was found after about 25 minutes, after which he was resuscitated on the beach. He was then taken to hospital, where the man died.

Beach closed

Earlier in the day, a body was found in the water near IJburg. Following the two incidents, Mayor Halsema decided to close the beach at IJburg, including the catering facility located there. The beach will remain closed until further notice. “ In the next few days, we will take the time to look at security there, because of these two serious incidents, ” a spokesman for the mayor said on Thursday.
