This is the story of the man from Deventer who wanted to drain the Wadden Sea (and went under himself)

If he had succeeded, squire Pieter Teding van Berkhout would have become the greatest resident of Deventer of all time, a historical Dutch figure as well. He tried to drain the Wadden Sea. This started in 1871 with the construction of a dam to Ameland. Corine Nijenhuis wrote about this unknown tragic hero Waddenwolf. “A book about Peter’s fate.”
