Landslide in India to kill toll is rising

The death toll from a landslide in the southern Indian city of Kerala has risen to 42, a local official has announced.

The landslide is a result of the monsoon rains. “Twelve people were rescued Friday, but for 42 others all help came too late,” said Antony Scaria, an official in the Idukki district. According to him, 24 people are still missing.

Rescue workers search for the missing under the rubble with sniffer dogs. A lot of rain is still forecast in the region for Sunday as well.
