Facebook has released a new service for Instagram. Under the name Reels, the company wants to hijack users who switch to TikTok. Reels is therefore almost a copy of the Chinese TikTok and focuses on short videos that you can edit with effects.
Since this week, Reels is also available in the Netherlands, Germany and France. The videos will end up in the feed of users and will also be found in the Explore tab of Instagram.
As mentioned, the new app is an attempt by Mark Zuckerberg not to lose her young audience on Instagram. That group is currently the strength of the social media platform, and of course you don’t want to lose that as a company. The young group of users also makes it interesting for advertisers to use Instagram as a marketing platform. If that target group disappears, Facebook’s income will also disappear. And that should counter Instagram with Reels. Once shameless copy, if you ask me.
At the moment it is not clear when the TikTok variant will come to Belgium, but it will probably not be too long.
