The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) has measured winds of up to 140 miles per hour. US President Donald Trump has already declared a state of emergency for North Carolina in connection with the upcoming Category 1 hurricane. The Governor of New Jersey has also declared a state of emergency in his state.
On Saturday, Isaias crossed the Bahamas and the hurricane was scaled by the NHC to a tropical storm. On Thursday, the storm caused damage in Puerto Rico, where trees were blown down, power lines were knocked down, and homes were flooded. A 56-year-old woman on the island was killed when the car she was in was dragged into the water.
In the Dominican Republic, two people died from severe weather. Isaias was scaled up to a hurricane again on Monday morning.
