Tottenham Hotspur has signed Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, the Premier League top club announced on Tuesday evening. Ajax must therefore definitely put a line through the name of the Danish international, should he still have been in the picture.

Various media reported last month that Ajax was aiming its arrows at Højbjerg. His arrival quickly became a difficult story, when Everton and Tottenham also showed interest. The 25-year-old midfielder himself had a preference for a new step in England. Spurs is now reportedly taking him over for € 16.6 million from Southampton, where he was captain for a long time last season. When he indicated that he did not want to renew his one-year continuous contract, he had to hand in his tire.

Højbjerg played 134 official games for Southampton in four years. Previously he was considered a great talent at Bayern Munich, but at de record champions he was unable to keep that promise in the end. Bayern leased him FC Augsburg and Schalke 04 before moving to Southampton in the summer of 2016.

Under the line, Tottenham probably lost a lot less to Højbjerg. That’s because of Kyle Walker-Peters, who goes the opposite way. Southampton will transfer 13.2 million euros to Spurs for him, British media report. Walker-Peters already played on a rental basis last season The Saints.
