HUGE breakthrough today! Historic Peace Agreement between our two GREAT friends, Israel and the United Arab Emirates!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 13, 2020
The agreement was signed in a telephone conversation between Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sheikh Muhammad bin Zaid, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. Officials have described the agreement as the first of its kind since Israel and Jordan signed a peace agreement in 1994 – an agreement that of course helps Trump politically ahead of the upcoming US election.
“This is a historic moment,” Trump stressed. “There has not been one since the agreement between Israel and Jordan. This is an important step on the road to building a safer Middle East. After ISIS was defeated, I expect other countries to follow the UAE.” As someone who knows Muhammad, this is not surprising. We talk about it with other nations and with people who want peace in the Middle East. We will see more, and this is the first in 25 years. ”

“I call the agreement ‘Abraham Agreement’ – Abraham is the founder of the 3 major religions and no one symbolizes the potential for peace more than Abraham,” Trump said.
In my phone call today with US President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, it was agreed to stop Israel’s annexation of the Palestinian territories. The UAE and Israel also agreed to lay down a roadmap towards launching joint cooperation, leading to bilateral relations.

White House officials said Trump’s top adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman and Middle East envoy Avi Berkowitz were involved in negotiating the deal, as well as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien .
