Heracles Almelo strengthened itself on Friday with Luca de la Torre. The Eredivisionist takes over the 22-year-old American attacker from Fulham on a free transfer.
De la Torre, who also has a Spanish passport, signs a two-year contract with Heracles with an option for an extra season.
The winger entered the Fulham youth academy in 2013, but never became a fixture in the first team. He played five games last season and was missing from the selection for the final of the playoffs against Brentford (2-1), which secured promotion to the Premier League.
“Heracles likes to play attractive football. I think that fits in well with my technical style of playing. I also had good discussions about this with trainer Frank Wormuth, among others. That expressed confidence. I can’t wait to show what I have at home “, says De la Torre on the Heracles website.
Technical director Tim Gilissen is happy with the arrival of De la Torre. “Luca is a versatile player who has good technique and the necessary creativity. He can work on both sides as a flank player, but also as an attacking midfielder. He offers us extra options.”
De la Torre is the sixth acquisition of Heracles in this transfer period. The Overijsselaars previously captured Delano Burgzorg (Spezia, had already been hired), Rai Vloet (Excelsior), Noah Fadiga (Club Brugge), Sinan Bakis (FC Flyeralarm Admira) and Marco Rente (Borussia Dortmund).
