AMSTERDAM (AFN) – The Amsterdam stock exchange appears to start slightly higher on Monday in August. The other European stock markets are also expected to open with small profits. Investors are preparing for another busy number week. Beer brewer Heineken and postal company PostNL opened the books on the Damrak. Later in the week, the AEX companies DSM, Ahold Delhaize, ING, NN Group, Galapagos and Wolters Kluwer will publish quarterly reports.

The continuing rise in the number of corona infections worldwide is causing some restraint on the exhibition floors. In a few days, another 1 million corona cases were added. More than 18 million infections have been registered since the virus outbreak. Of those infected, approximately 689,000 died. More than 11.3 million have been restored.

Heineken has seen a slight recovery since the bottom of the corona crisis in April. However, the brewer still calls the situation around the coronavirus “mobile and uncertain” and made no predictions for the rest of the year. The company confirmed the preliminary figures released last month. Heineken had a net loss of EUR 297 million in the first six months of the year, mainly as a result of the hospitality industry being hit in many key markets.

PostNL

PostNL, on the other hand, posted more sales and profit in the second quarter, helped by the corona crisis. Due to the virus outbreak and the measures to combat the disease, people more often ordered online and the postal and parcel company was busier with the delivery of parcels at home. For the whole year, the company still expects an operating result of well above 110 million to 130 million euros.

Bever Holding has been placed on the so-called criminal bench of the Amsterdam stock exchange by stock exchange operator Euronext. According to the real estate fund, this is because the company is still looking for an accountant to audit the 2019 financial statements.

Acquisitions

At the acquisition front, German healthcare technology group Siemens Healthineers announced it would acquire US industry colleague Varian Medical Systems for approximately $ 16.4 billion. The deal is expected to close in the first half of next year.

European stock markets entered the weekend mostly lower. The AEX index fell 0.7 percent to 545.29 points, and the MidKap index gained a fraction to 760.71 points. The stock exchanges in Frankfurt, Paris and London fell to 1.4 percent. Wall Street ended the week with a win. The Dow-Jones index gained 0.4 percent to 26,428.32 points. The broad S&P 500 climbed 0.8 percent and the Nasdaq tech exchange rose 1.5 percent.

The euro was worth $ 1.1772 versus $ 1.1825 on Friday. The price of a barrel of American oil fell 0.6 percent to $ 40.05. Brent oil became 0.3 percent cheaper at $ 43.37 a barrel.

  1. Postnl will mainly be in the spotlight in a positive way, substantial price target increases can not be otherwise.
