Handball player Estavana Polman has sustained a serious injury. The 27-year-old Arnhemse has torn a cruciate ligament in her right knee and has been sidelined for months. A scan she underwent Friday revealed the severity of her knee injury.
On Thursday, Polman was injured during the training of her club. Due to her serious injury, she has been sidelined for months. That means that Polman will probably miss the Euro 2020, which will be held from 3 to 20 December.
Polman already felt the bad news coming, she says on the website of her Danish club Esbjerg. “I immediately felt that it was not good. But this is the risk that comes with playing handball. And I can not change it anymore. Now the plan is that I go under the knife as soon as possible. Then there is a awaiting major rehabilitation, however shit happens“said the Arnhemse.
Polman, who will turn 28 next Wednesday, had a very successful handball year in 2019. With the Dutch women’s handball team, she captured the world title in Japan. She was named the best player of the tournament. She also won the Danish league title and crowned herself top scorer with 219 goals, for the third time in her career.
Shock to the club
Esbjerg speaks of a shock to the entire club. The Danes say they will do everything they can to find a suitable replacement for Polman. The Dutch herself promises that she will do everything after her surgery to support her team as well as possible.
