Until recently, Greece was relatively spared by the global corona outbreak, but yesterday a record number of 203 new infections was registered in the southern European country. That brought the total number of infections in the country to 5,623 since the virus first appeared in late February.
The government in Athens now wants to prevent an import of the virus by tourists, among others. Authorities have also decided to suspend public gatherings, including shows and concerts, where the public does not sit. Restaurants and bars in Crete, Thessaloniki, Chalkidiki and the islands of Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Antiparos, Zakynthos and Kos must also be closed from midnight to 7am.
