A glider crashed in the vicinity of Tienen on Saturday afternoon around 3.20 pm. Two people lost their lives. It concerns a 57-year-old man from Bekkevoort – an experienced pilot – and an 18-year-old girl from Puurs, who flew as a passenger. Sarah Callewaert of the public prosecutor’s office in Leuven confirms this.
The accident happened in the vicinity of the airport of Goetshoven, where the gliding section of Koninklijke Vliegclub De Wouw is located. The plane landed in a field about a kilometer from the airport, a journalist from Belga noted on the spot.
The forensics is conducting an investigation. The experts must use the fragments, among other things, to determine what exactly went wrong.
In August 2009, a glider also crashed at the airport. The pilot was then slightly injured. And a month earlier, in July 2009, two people were killed in a crash of a sports plane at the airport.
