‘Ghent has hit the jackpot: five million extra and a percentage on subsequent resale’

The jackpot is almost a fact for KAA Gent, as Jonathan David will leave for a record amount. The newspapaer reports that Lille OSC will put around 27 million euros on the table for the Canadian goldcrest. But that’s not all.

For example, in a later resale, Ghent will capture an additional five million euros for David. The Buffalos initially wanted to go for a 20 percent resale rate à la Victor Osimhen, but the French did not like that. Nevertheless, Ghent still receives a small percentage on top of that five million euros in the event of a later sale.

David’s transfer took a lot of work. Under pressure from the Lille supporters and his entourage, the 20-year-old attacker refused to play any more games during the preparation at Ghent. After long negotiations, Ghent and Lille have agreed on an asking price of 27 million.

This immediately makes David the most expensive outgoing transfer ever in the Jupiler Pro League. That record was held by Wesley Moraes (Aston Villa) and Youri Tielemans (AS Monaco), who each left for 25 million at Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht respectively.
