Fulham returns to the Premier League after a year. The club from West London was too strong for Brentford in the final of the playoffs for promotion, partly thanks to a bizarre goal 2-1.

In an 0-0 tie in extra time, left back Joe Bryan suddenly shot the ball at goal from a long distance free kick. Brentford goalkeeper David Raya was surprised in the short corner.

Just before time, Bryan also made the decision from a nicely played attack. Henrik Dalsgaard’s goal against came too late to make it even more exciting at Wembley.

The win means that after a year of absence, Fulham, which finished fourth behind Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Brentford in the Championship, is back at the top level. The club previously played in the Premier League between 2001 and 2014.

Brentford hoped to play in the Premier League for the first time in history. The club of former Sparta Rotterdam attacker Halil Dervisoglu has worked its way up from the fourth to the second level in recent years.

As numbers one and two of the Championship, Leeds and West Bromwich were already certain of promotion. Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich City were relegated from the Premier League.
