Following incendiary balloons: Israel closes the Kerem Shalom crossing

The Kerem Shalom crossing will be closed in response to the launch of incendiary balloons: Defense Minister Bnei Gantz ordered tonight (Monday) to close the Kerem Shalom crossing for goods. From tomorrow morning the crossing will be closed, and only humanitarian equipment and fuels will be able to pass through it. The announcement of the Coordinator of Government Operations in the Occupied Territories (IDF) stated that the decision was made in light of the repeated terrorist acts of the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip.

A statement from the IDF stated: “The inflating of incendiary balloons and the violation of security calm will, first and foremost, harm the residents of the Gaza Strip, the development of the economy and attempts to improve the civilian situation of its residents. “The IDF and the State of Israel will respond firmly and rigidly to any violation of our sovereignty and our citizens.”

The government’s coordinator of operations in the territories added that “Hamas bears responsibility for everything that is done in and out of the Gaza Strip towards Israel, and it will bear the consequences of the violence used against Israeli citizens.”

At least 20 fires broke out during the day in the Gaza Strip and hundreds of dunams went up in flames. Several balloons also landed on the streets of various cities in the south of the country – and were handled by saboteurs.

Last night, IDF forces attacked targets in the Gaza Strip in response to the launch of incendiary and explosive balloons into Israeli territory during the day.
