Mayor Francesco Vanderjeugd van Staden expects the number of infections to increase further. The other test results should be received by Thursday afternoon. Everyone who was tested is asked to remain in quarantine for two weeks.

The company discovered the breeding ground through local contact detection, Nieuwsblad writes.

It concerns the slaughterhouse Westvlees, which annually processes 1.4 million pigs into more than 140,000 tons of pork. The company, with approximately 850 employees, is part of the Belgian Pork Group.

Earlier it appeared that relatively many employees of slaughterhouses in the Netherlands and Germany, among others, are infected with the virus.
