We are September 2015. In Koolskamp is being fought for the Championship of Flanders. After a wet day, there is a sprint for victory. Jens Debusschere seems on his way to victory, but Groenewegen (then still employed by Roompot – Oranje Peloton) wants to pass the Belgian on the right. Debusschere, however, closes the door, causing the Dutchman to crash into the crush barriers and fall heavily.

Debusschere would be taken out of the result, so that Michal Golas (Etixx – Quick-Step) won the hundredth edition of the Championship of Flanders. Groenewegen broke his kneecap in the incident.
