This first race in the 2020 DTM Championship meant a happy reunion with the real action for the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Due to the corona crisis, there was little or no official action in Spa in recent months. But today the spectacle finally broke out again with the first of two races in the opening weekend of the DTM Championship.
It was Nico Müller who best tamed his animal. Müller left second on the starting grid after only a few minutes.
The Swiss would keep his lead until the finish. He was 19 seconds ahead of Brit Jamie Green at the finish. Frenchman Loïc Duval completed the podium at 22 seconds. Green and Duval also drive an Audi.
Places 4 and 5 were also for Audi, with the Germans Mike Rockenfeller and René Rast. Austrian Phillip Eng’s BMW, who drives for the Belgian team RBM, finished 6th. The other Belgian team WRT (Audi) had to be satisfied with a 12th place out of 15, for the Swiss Fabio Scherer.
The second race in Spa-Francorchamps will be held on Sunday at 1:30 PM.
