With the new service, it tries to keep as many users as possible on its platform, who otherwise often go to the competing video platform YouTube from Google.
Facebook has created sections on all the musicians ‘and singers’ web pages since fall, allowing users to browse many official music videos. Users can also follow the artist directly from the dedicated Facebook page. For example, by clicking from there to a cash register for music and concert tickets.
Companies Sony Music, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Merlin, BMG and Kobalt provide their catalogs in the deal with Facebook, for which no financial details have been disclosed.
More margin on videos
Facebook was given permission to use videos by Blake Shelton, Bob Marley, Elton John, Jonas Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj, among others.
According to Bloomberg news agency, a major reason for the expansion with videos is the ad revenue from the movie, which is greater than that from advertising alongside other content.
It is again an extension of the already full Facebook page. Technology site Techcrunch previously reported on a video launch in the Indian and Thai markets.
Users find that they need to give additional permission on the Facebook page so that Facebook automatically adds the music videos and any changes afterwards to their page. The expansion comes a month after Facebook added the Gaming component to the site.
