The cabinet wants introduction weeks for new students not to take place this year, in order to prevent a further spread of the corona virus. This is reported by sources from the NOS in The Hague. This also concerns the Eurekaweek in Rotterdam. The introduction week would start on August 17.
It would be too difficult to maintain the corona measures. Students are said to be a risk group in the spread of the virus.
Earlier this week, Mayor Aboutaleb announced that he has not yet decided whether the introduction week should continue. As it looks now, that decision is now being made for him in The Hague. More clarity is expected on Thursday evening, in the press conference by Prime Minister Rutte.
Rotterdam is one of the major hot spots when it comes to the number of infections. In recent days, the number of infections that have been diagnosed has risen from around fifty a day to almost a hundred a day.
The virus is also circulating among students in Rotterdam. For example, students from the medical faculty at Erasmus University were found to be infected with the virus.
