Strade Bianche will start tomorrow with eight Dutch people. This is evident from the list of participants as released by the organization of the Tuscan one-day race. That is one more than last year, when seven Dutch people appeared at the start.
Most eyes are on Mathieu van der Poel. The Alpecin-Fenix leader makes his debut in the dirt road race, but is nevertheless noted as the top favorite by the bookmakers. He is the only Dutchman in the selection of Alpecin-Fenix.
The selection of Team Jumbo-Visma delivers the most Dutch with three riders. Koen Bouwman, Bert-Jan Lindeman and Antwan Tolhoek start at the yellow-black formation in the service of leader Wout van Aert. Cyclo-cross rider Joris Nieuwenhuis makes an appearance at Team Sunweb.
Routier Pieter Weening will make his first competition kilometers at Trek-Segafredo for his new employer. Corné van Kessel drives his first race in the shirt of Circus-Wanty Gobert. He replaces Maurits Lammertink, who dropped out at the last minute due to a clavicle fracture during reconnaissance. Tom-Jelte Slagter drives the race in French salaried employment, on behalf of his B&B Hotels-Vital Concept team.
Tomorrow afternoon, 168 riders will leave for a race of 184 kilometers at a quarter to two. The live TV broadcast on Sporza and Eurosport starts at 4:50 PM. The arrival is expected around half past six.
