Immediately after the finish in the Strade Bianche, Wout van Aert asked the carer not to wash his dusted shirt. “Over the years I have become a collector of special cycling jerseys. Of all three world cyclocross titles, I have kept the original shirt with jersey number and therefore mud at home in a cupboard. The cycling suit with which I took the stage victory last year in the Tour is next to it. I prefer to keep as many of those special victories as possible. The bike and the shirt are a must, but I also like to keep the helmet, shoes and stockings. I’d rather keep too much now than regret throwing them out later. I like those keepsakes much more beautiful than the trophies you get on stage. The intention is to make a private museum with those things later. ”

“The Strade’s bicycle is certainly a unique item. I went to see him again in the evening after the race and he was still completely covered with dust. It should stay that way. The team’s mechanics will take care of that. Just like the bikes on which I became cyclocross world champion, this bike gets a nice place against the wall, ”says Van Aert.
