Tom Dumoulin finished 4th in his first race for Jumbo-Visma, also his first official race in more than a year. “I couldn’t wish for a better test,” says the Dutchman.
Tom Dumoulin tried to pilot his teammate Primoz Roglic to victory in the opening stage of the Tour de l’Ain, but was also able to claim a place of honor himself.
“I have proven that I have come out of the long training period well”, says the former Giro winner. “I had to come back in now and then. It felt crazy to fight for a place in the peloton again. But that’s like skiing, you can’t forget that. I couldn’t wish for a better test.”
Dumoulin rode in the yellow of Jumbo-Visma for the first time. In the preparation for the sprint it immediately became clear that the much-discussed interaction with Primoz Roglic and Steven Kruijswijk, among others, could well work in the Tour. “Too bad Primoz couldn’t finish it. He was at his limit himself, I think.”
