Done deal: ‘Vertonghen finds new club and signs contract tomorrow’

Jan Vertonghen has found a new club after his passage at Tottenham Hotspur. Het Laatste Nieuws reports that the Red Devil will wear the Benfica shirt next season.

The 33-year-old defender is taking his medical tests today and will sign a three-year contract tomorrow. Vertonghen has also been associated with numerous Italian clubs. Inter, Napoli and AS Roma were all interested, but are therefore off the net.

Valencia, Sevilla and Manchester City were also mentioned, but Benfica was ultimately chosen. Vertonghen left Tottenham Hotspur transfer-free. Benfica is ambitious and wants to play for the prizes next season. Last month, it grabbed the title that went to rival Porto.
