Last year Julian Alaphilippe fulfilled his favorite role in Milan-Sanremo. He then stayed ahead of Oliver Naesen and Michal Kwiatkowski in an elite group.
The Frenchman will have 5 teammates by his side this year: sprinter Sam Bennett, Kasper Asgreen, Bob Jungels, Zdenek Stybar and Tim Declercq (the only Belgian in the selection).
“We will not start as a favorite this year,” sports director Davide Bramati admits. “Other riders have already shown their top form and will also go for the win on Saturday. But of course we are also very motivated and are fully committed to a good result.”
Bramati expects a different course in Milan-Sanremo than in previous years.
“The course has been adjusted, the heat in August will play its part and we will ride with teams of only 6 riders. The latter makes it difficult to control the race. We expect a dynamic race”, the Italian concludes.
