Debut beckons for Xavi Simons: Tuchel selects Dutch talent

For Xavi Simons, a milestone in his still early career beckons. The seventeen-year-old youth international of Orange is part of the match selection of Paris Saint-Germain for the exhibition game with Sochaux on Wednesday evening.

If Simons gets minutes from coach Thomas Tuchel, he will make his unofficial debut for the champion of Ligue 1. The midfielder has been known as a great talent for several years. He previously played in FC Barcelona’s youth academy, but surprised friend and foe last year with the move to PSG.

In France, Simons usually plays his matches for the U19 team, although he has been able to train with the selection of Tuchel a few times. The German coach has now brought the Dutchman into the competition selection for the first time. Mitchel Bakker is also present against Sochaux. Both Dutch start on the bench.

Many stars get rest. PSG will perform without Neymar, Ángel Di María, Mauro Icardi, Thiago Silva and Marco Verratti. In addition, Kylian Mbappé is still missing with an ankle injury.
