The death toll from the plane crash on Friday 7 August in the south of India has risen to 18. Some 130 people are being treated in various hospitals. A government official said this on Saturday.

In the Indian state of Kerala, an Air India Express plane had deviated from the runway on Friday evening when it landed at Calicut airport. More than 190 people, including the crew, were on board the crashed aircraft that took off in Dubai. At the time of the incident, it was raining heavily. The plane slid off the runway and plunged ten meters down a slope.

It is the worst passenger plane accident since 2010, when another Air India plane also slid off the runway.
