13:04 – Nyck de Vries set the fastest time in the second free practice for the Formula E race later today in Berlin. The Dutch Mercedes driver clocked a time of 1.06.846 on the grounds of Tempelhof Airport.
At that time, De Vries was only 0.076 faster than classification leader and DS Techcheetah driver Antonio Felix da Costa. Maximilian Guenther in Andretti Motorsport’s BMW finished third. Robin Frijns did not go further than P21 with his Envision car.
De Vries was almost a second faster in the second session than the Oliver Rowland who was the fastest in the first free practice this morning. The rough surface of the track made the drivers choose to save their tires. They have to use them later today during qualifying and racing and it led to a tame and incident-free session of thirty minutes in which there was only real action in the last ten minutes.
Sebastian Buemi provided the initial tension by improving the fastest time to 1.07.301. After that it was Guenther who took a shot at the fastest lap, but his time was soon driven by De Vries off the plates. The only one who came close to the Dutchman in the last phase of the training was Da Costa who had a moment to activate his attack mode, but stalled and drove Daniel Abt in the road.
Qualifying is at 2pm and tonight’s race at 6pm.
