Corona outbreak at Westvlees in Westrozebeke: infections in West Flanders spread over 9 municipalities

After consultation with various mayors from South West Flanders, mayor Vanderjeugd decides that it is not appropriate to close Westvlees.

“Testing in the company is now much more important than closing the books and closing the doors”. “At the moment, that is not a proportional decision, it would rather be excessive”, says Vanderjeugd, who also refers to discussions about this with Care and Health.

Also, according to Manuel Goderis, there is “no reason” to close the company now. “That is not currently the case,” he says. The company has announced additional preventive measures. For example, employees will be monitored even better when they enter the company site.

In addition, additional ventilation will be installed in non-cooled areas and air filters will be installed in cooled areas. There will also be extra efforts to monitor and enforce all agreed rules, such as the distance rules and the mouth mask obligation.
