The IDF published documentation of the arrest a month ago of a Hamas terrorist who tried to infiltrate swimming from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory.
The naval control system located the suspect and directed the fighters of Squadron 916 and the fighters of the fin unit of the naval arm.
The terrorist was arrested and taken for GSS interrogation. The IDF statement said: “The naval arm will continue to work to thwart terrorist activities in the naval medium at all times.”
The terrorist, Izz al-Din Hussein, a 24-year-old resident of Jabalya in the northern Gaza Strip, infiltrated Israel about a month ago in the face of personal difficulties at the family level and after persecution and defamation by senior Hamas figures.
Hussein’s investigation at the Shin Bet revealed that in 2013 he was drafted into the military wing of Hamas and from 2018 until his arrest, he worked in the Hamas air defense system, among other things, in a commanding position as head of the shoulder-fired missile corps.
As part of this job, he held an anti-aircraft missile in his home and was instructed to launch it at an Israeli helicopter, as long as it landed near his home in Gaza, in order to kill or abduct Israeli soldiers.
As part of his activities in Hamas, Hussein took part in various trainings and military activities against the State of Israel.
Thus, as part of his service in the Hamas air defense system, Hussein learned about Israeli Air Force aircraft and their role, anti-aircraft missiles, as well as binoculars and cameras for the purpose of observing the movement of Israeli aircraft in the Gaza sky.
Hussein’s activities in Hamas and the vast knowledge he acquired in this framework led to a unique investigation that revealed to the GSS a great deal of intelligence about the Hamas organization.
Following the investigation, today (Thursday) the Southern District Attorney’s Office filed an indictment in the Be’er Sheva District Court alleging that Hussein had serious security offenses.
