‘Clubless’ Pouwels can go to Primera División: “They were looking for a long striker”

After Go Ahead Eagles-Telstar, Maarten Pouwels gave extra explanation about his remarkable sporting situation. The two-meter striker from Dalfsen ran out of his contract with Go Ahead Eagles this summer, but is still training with Kowet: meanwhile he is also coveted by Primera División club Deportivo Alavés.

Pouwels played on Sunday afternoon during the 0-0 between Go Ahead and Telstar and appeared before the FOX Sports microphone afterwards: he confirmed the Alavés news that was already circulating on Saturday. “I have been in contact with Alavés,” said Pouwels. “They were looking for a long striker, then they came to me … I need to hear more from them, but that will come with time. What I want myself? What is best for my development. And I am figuring it out. ”

The striker also does not yet know what perspective he has at Go Ahead, the club for which he played 37 times in two years. “There is not much clarity yet. I have heard from the trainer (Kees van Wonderen, ed.) That they want to keep me. Maybe that will come with time, I would not know yet.”

Pouwels has mixed feelings about a possible transfer to Spain. For example, he should learn Spanish if he actually moves to Alavés. “I downloaded an app two days ago, but I still don’t know a word. Really tricky, not normal.” The weather conditions do not seem to be in his favor either. “A very nice country, but that heat … I think this is already very hot to run in.”
