Red Bull Racing, like many other teams, will drive a home race this weekend. The Austrian team started the weekend yesterday with a range of new updates for the RB16 and that caused excitement as Max Verstappen managed to drive the fastest time in the first practice, almost 5 tens ahead of Hamilton’s Mercedes.
The second training went less because Verstappen was able to drive the fourteenth time after he was held up by Grosjean. Worse, Albon crashed into the crash barriers with his new updates. Also this morning during the third training, Albon was long delayed due to problems with his car.
It is not going smoothly this weekend at Red Bull and that became clear in the qualifying. Where Max Verstappen managed to get the most out of it by conquering a third place, teammate Albon came no further than twelfth place. This gives him a free choice of tires to start the race with tomorrow, but Horner is not very happy.
The team boss told Sky Sport: “I would be lying if I said it hasn’t been frustrating today, especially with the backlog we’re looking at towards Mercedes. We know this track always fits their car, but they’re incredibly fast at the moment. However, we need to keep them under pressure as much as possible. The wind has a major impact on the aerodynamics of the car, which has consequences for the driver and the car. ”
Alex disappointing, Max great
“It was disappointing for Alex and the team not to make it to Q3, but the loss of time in third free practice hurt him, especially after yesterday’s lost time. Max did a great job pushing everything out of the car to get to the second row, which is actually our best qualifying here since 2016. The gap remains our focus and there is clear work to do for us as a team We will not stop pushing Our race pace is often more competitive in compared to qualifying, so hopefully tomorrow we can get our points with both cars. ”
