Bernal shows form in the run-up to Tour de France: ‘It looks good’ | NOW

Egan Bernal has a good feeling about his form in the run-up to the Tour de France. The Team INEOS climber took the overall victory in the Route d’Occitanie on Tuesday, his first race since the corona crisis.

Bernal laid the foundation for Monday’s victory in the queen stage, which he won convincingly. In that stage, four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome drove for Bernal.

“I am really happy with this final victory. Not only for myself, but for the whole team,” said Bernal after the last stage, in which his leader’s jersey was no longer endangered.

“It was important to win our first race since the lockdown, but the most important thing is that I felt really good. My preparation for the Tour is looking good so far.”

Bernal seems to be the leader in Tour

Relations between Bernal and Froome in the Route d’Occitanie – the Briton finished only 39th in the rankings – seem to herald the Tour, where Team INEOS has several candidates for the team.

“I felt good again today and just wanted to put in a good performance,” said Bernal about his form. “I finished fourth and was among the best riders. That is a good sign in the run-up to the Tour.”

The Tour de France was originally scheduled to take place in June, but now starts on Saturday, August 29. Team INEOS seems to be getting competition mainly from Jumbo-Visma, which also travels to France with a strong team.
