Beerschot and OH Leuven will play the backmatch of the promotion final in 1B on Sunday, but more than the honor is no longer at stake. After all, the clubs were told on Friday that they can go to 1A anyway, after the Pro League decided to play with 18 in 1A. But it was not all good news for the two clubs.
Of course they are delighted with the promotion at Beerschot and OHL, but they will not be able to enjoy one of the main advantages. Het Nieuwsblad knows that the two doctoral candidates will not receive TV funding at the level of 1A in the coming two seasons. They must make peace with the sums from 1B.
Both clubs therefore have to hand in 1 million euros per year. The other sixteen clubs in 1A – including Waasland-Beveren – do receive the same sums as before.
