Arsenal won the FA Cup for the fourteenth time in club history on Saturday. ‘The Gunners’ were in the final at Wembley thanks to two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 2-1 too strong for Chelsea.
Christian Pulisic opened the score for Chelsea after just five minutes. After a heel from Olivier Giroud, the American walked quite simply through the defense of Arsenal and placed the ball in the left corner.
‘The Blues’ hardly ran into problems after the opening goal, until the ball went into the spot after Aubameyang was brought down in the sixteen-meter area by César Azpilicueta. The Gabonese used the penalty flawlessly and brought the score back into balance.
Both minutes before half-time and shortly after the interruption, Chelsea lost a player due to a hamstring injury. First captain Azpilicueta was injured and Pulisic did the same after the break.
In the second half, the odds on one hand could be counted. In the 67th minute, Aubameyang was nicely accurate at one of those few opportunities. The striker finished Kurt Zouma with a quick foot movement and passed goalkeeper Willy Caballero with a beautiful marker.
More than fifteen minutes before time, Chelsea also had to continue with ten men because of a red card for Mateo Kovacic. The Croat got his second yellow card of the game for a serious foul on Granit Xhaka. Chelsea also lost Pedro deep in injury time. The Spaniard appeared to have broken his collarbone after a collision in the penalty area.

Arsenal strengthens record with fourteenth FA Cup
Arsenal barely ran into problems after Aubameyang’s second goal, winning first prize since 2017, when Arsenal also won the FA Cup by beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final. With fourteen victories, the Londoners are the record holder in the English cup tournament. Manchester United is number two on the list with twelve FA Cups.
Thanks to the FA Cup win, Arsenal also secured European football. Coach Mikel Arteta’s team will play in the group stage of the Europa League next season.
With the conquest of the FA Cup, Arsenal still provides a nice conclusion to an otherwise disappointing season. In the Premier League, the team finished only eighth, in the Europa League they lost to Olympiacos in the second round and in the League Cup, Liverpool was too strong in the fourth round.
