AS Roma will become one of the richest clubs on earth. The Italian top club was taken on Thursday for the amount of 591 million euros by the American investment company The Friedkin Group.
The Friedkin Group has been negotiating with Roma for months and will own 83.3 percent of the shares. The transition is expected to be completed by the end of August.
“We are pleased to have taken the necessary steps to become part of this iconic city and club. We can’t wait to complete the purchase and become part of the AS Roma family,” said Dan Friedkin, President of the American company.
Roma was already bought in 2012 by a group of American investors led by James Pallotta, who has been chairman ever since. However, this acquisition did not lead to prices.
Roma has been participating in the Italian and international top for years, but the last trophy dates from twelve years ago. At the time, the Coppa Italia was won. The last of three league titles was caught in 2001.
Last season, Roma finished fifth in Serie A behind Juventus, Internazionale, Atalanta and fellow townsman Lazio. It means that former Ajax player Justin Kluivert’s club will play in the Europa League next season.
