Arthur returns to Barcelona within 24 hours, Spanish media assure Thursday evening. It is intended that the midfielder, who initially refused to return after his mini-vacation in Brazil, re-enter the club during the day on Friday, the day before the reunion between Barcelona and Napoli in the eighth finals of the Champions League. Arthur would have the intention to come to an agreement with the club management.
Arthur decided last month, in anticipation of his transfer to Juventus, to stay in his native Brazil and not to play Champions League football with Barcelona this month. Arthur said by phone that he feels he feels unfairly being treated as he has reportedly been forced to make a transfer to Serie A as part of Miralem Pjanic’s transfer. According to various Spanish media, the disguised exchange deal between Arthur and Pjanic was not initiated by the Barcelona board for sporting reasons, but to be able to close the budget for this season.
Barcelona and Arthur reportedly agreed that he would remain with the club until the end of the Champions League participation and remain at the disposal of Quique Setién. However, his relationship with the trainer reached an all-time low; he has not come within a minute since the announcement of his transfer and it stands to reason that that will not happen again, even if Barcelona gets one round further on Saturday. President Josep Maria Bartomeu recently assured that Arthur himself came up with the Juventus proposal and that Barcelona could not meet his financial wishes for a contract extension.
Spanish media assume tension in Barcelona, ‘tensions at Barcelona’, when Arthur returns to the club. He will first undergo a corona test before meeting with the board of Barcelona. Arthur would like to reach an agreement with the club about the immediate termination of his contract, since the Champions League lasts until August 23. Should both parties fail to reach an agreement, and that seems very realistic indeed, then the board will have to determine whether Arthur should join the selection of Setien or not. It goes without saying that this decision will be taken after Saturday evening, if the result of the game between Barcelona and Napoli is known.
Arthur’s last appearance was a four-minute raid against Celta de Vigo (2-2) on June 27. The attitude of Arthur, who had been yawned on the reserve bench before, was also not understood by Barcelona because Pjanic, meanwhile, remains fully committed to Juventus. The Italian top club will play its eighth final match against Olympique Lyon on Friday evening.
