Manager Mikel Arteta hopes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang decides to stay with Arsenal. The striker, who still has a one-year contract in London, proved his worth on Saturday by scoring twice against Chelsea in the FA Cup final (2-1).
“He knows how I feel about him. I want to build my team around him. I think he wants to stay and everything has to be put on paper,” said Arteta after his game at Wembley about his captain.
“Moments like this final will make him realize we’re on the right track and he plays a very important role in that. Everyone at Arsenal loves him. Hopefully he will stay.”
There have been a lot of rumors recently around 31-year-old Aubameyang, who himself did not want to discuss his future. The striker would not plan to renew his contract, which would mean Arsenal will have to sell the Gabonese this summer to get another transfer fee for him.
“There were those who said he didn’t show up in big games, but he played a big part in winning the FA Cup,” Arteta concluded his hymn. “We are proud to have him on our team.”
Arsenal took first prize against Chelsea since 2017, when the FA Cup was also won. The Gunners also won the cup in 2014 and 2015, among others.
