Ajax lacks permit and plays without an audience against RKC | Football

In the run-up to the new season, Ajax has scheduled matches in the premier league against RKC Waalwijk (August 8) and FC Utrecht (August 13) in its own stadium. According to the club, a license application for both matches was submitted on July 15, containing an extensive plan that complies with the protocols of the football association KNVB and guidelines of the RIVM to prevent the spread of the corona virus.

“On the basis of this, Ajax and the Johan Cruijff ArenA believed that it was possible to fill the stadium with approximately 9000 supporters in a responsible and safe manner, which is about 16 percent of the current capacity,” the club said in a message on the website. The total capacity of the Johan Cruijff Arena since this summer is 55,500.

Because the permit had not yet been issued on Monday evening, Ajax has now had to “strike out of necessity.” The club says it will make every effort to ensure that supporters can be present against FC Utrecht and will contact the municipality again to get the permit.
