Giovanni van Bronckhorst took his first point on Wednesday as a trainer of Guangzhou R&F. The Dutchman’s formation played 1-1 in the Chinese Super League against Henan Jianye.
Van Bronckhorst’s team came in Dalian, where all group A matches are played, after ten minutes already behind by a goal from Boxuan Feng, but Israeli Eran Zahavi gave Guangzhou R&F a point after an hour of play.
Van Bronckhorst has had a difficult start in his first job abroad. The former coach of Feyenoord lost with his team in the first two games of the Super League, which due to the corona crisis could only start in late July instead of February, 0-3 to Shenzhen and 0-5 to Guangzhou Evergrande.
Despite the point, Guangzhou R&F remains the final match in group A. The four top clubs in group A and B eventually qualify for the play-offs for the championship. The bottom four teams enter the playoffs to ensure conservation.
The competition continues for Guangzhou R&F on Sunday with a game against Jiangsu Suning.
